Kalitta Air, based in Ypsilanti, Michigan, is a prominent U.S. cargo airline specializing in global airfreight services. Founded in 2000 by Conrad "Connie" Kalitta, the airline grew from its predecessor, Kalitta Flying Service, and quickly established itself as a major player in the cargo industry. Kalitta Air operates a fleet of approximately 37 aircraft, primarily Boeing 747-400s, Boeing 777-300s, and Boeing 767-300s, making it one of the largest cargo airlines globally. The airline handles daily international routes spanning Asia, Europe, the Middle East, and the Americas, as well as ad hoc charters and military airlift contracts. Employing over 500 pilots, Kalitta Air maintains bases at Detroit Metropolitan Airport (DTW) and Cincinnati/Northern Kentucky International Airport (CVG), among others. Known for its ability to handle diverse cargo, including oversized and hazardous materials, the airline continues to expand its fleet and capabilities while maintaining its commitment to reliable global logistics solutions.
