Cape Air operates daily flights to numerous destinations, offering a flexible and family-oriented work environment. Pilot bases are spread across several locations including Hyannis, Boston, Provincetown, and San Juan, with seniority-based bidding for assignments. The airline's focus on community connections and robust schedules makes it a key player in regional air travel.

  • The P2012 Traveller was introduced to the fleet in September 2019, offering 11 seats, advanced avionics from Garmin’s G1000 Nxi, and two 375 HP Lycoming piston engines. It was designed to be a versatile aircraft, ideal for both efficiency and flexibility.

  • Employees also receive KCM, CASS, and family pass benefits, along with relocation and uniform allowances, FAA medical reimbursement, and both long and short-term disability coverage.

  • Pilots enjoy the advantage of starting and finishing their day at their base each night, except in Montana, and the airline maintains strong partnerships with major carriers like JetBlue, United, Delta, and American, providing reciprocal travel agreements with most domestic and international airlines.

Training

  • Cape Air is the only piston-powered Part 135 airline with an FAA-approved Aircrew Designated Examiner (ADE) Program, enabling check pilots to issue ATP certificates upon completing a Captain 135 proficiency check.

  • Using an FAA Level 6 FSTD, Cape Air's training program prepares pilots for a range of operations, from standard procedures to emergency scenarios.

  • Our 135 training incorporates best practices from 121 carriers, including Line Oriented Flight Training (LOFT), Crew Resource Management (CRM), and systems integration.

  • Cape Air covers the ATP-CTP course costs for all First Officer-to-Captain upgrades, including wages during training.

Standards

  • Cape Air uses a Normal Procedures Handbook for the 402, outlining standard operating procedures for both single and multi-pilot crews, similar to those of 121 carriers.

Pay

  • In 2023, the median gross compensation for a first-year and second-year Captain was $89,130 and $106,616, respectively.

  • This includes the minimum guarantee (40 hours weekly), overtime, and incentive pay.

  • Each incentive shift is valued at 150% of the hourly rate, plus a $300 bonus per shift.

  • Unlike most airlines, which differentiate pay based on ground and block time, Cape Air pays pilots the same rate for all duty hours, ensuring consistent and predictable income.
